GREAT (Growing Readers Effectively and Actively Together)
Night at Sandy Run K-8
October 20th was truly a GREAT night for Sandy
Run K-8. We hosted our first Family Literacy night with parents and students
from the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes. Mrs. Rachel Toole, the Reading Coach,
began the evening by sharing with the parents the purpose of GREAT Night,
explaining to them that without the generous donation from The Dick Horne
Foundation this book swap program would not be possible. Miss Cristina Gadsden,
our Montessori teacher, then shared a story, Mouse Shapes, with
the group, followed by two interactive activities based on the theme of the
story. The parents and students worked together to create a “shape picture”.
Math was integrated in the activities by completing a shapes graph. A special
thanks to the parents and students in the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes, Ms.
Treda Keith (Assistant Principal), Miss Cristina Gadsden (Montessori teacher), Mrs.
Melinda Rucker (Kindergarten teacher), and Mrs. Elizabeth Price (2nd
grade teacher) for volunteering their time to make this night possible.

The mission of Calhoun County Public Schools, in unity with parents and community, is to provide an environment conducive to learning that challenges all students to reach their maximum potential for success in a rapidly changing global society.
We envision a school district where everyone works harmoniously in a safe and caring environment to help all students reach their maximum potential.
Calhoun County is committed to having our students compete in the current informational and technological environment, with 21st century skills. Therefore, as previously shared, each of
our students in grades 3-12 will receive a digital device this school year. Each student will receive a Lenova 11e Chrome Book, a carrying case, and AC power adapter.
There is a $50.00 Annual User/Insurance Fee for each device issued. The fee is due by December 18, 2015, prior to the week of rollout, beginning on January 4, 2016. This fee is to cover the cost of repair if necessary and other items that may need replacing.
On December 1, 2015, from 6:30 pm- 7:30 pm we invite you to stop by the school to pay your $50.oo fee. In addition, we will have a table set up for payment plans. We will also have a device on display so that you may see what your child/children will be receiving.
